How to Change Skin Font
This section describes how to change the font displayed on clock skins when you want to make it larger, change its type, or another aspect of the font.
It's possible for some skins - those who have a
skin.ini file. Skins are folders in the
skins subdirectory of your World Clock installation, which is C:\Program Files\Anuko\World Clock\ by default. If you look there you'll see a bunch of folders such as Bamboo, Illuminator, Plain - Black and others.
Some skins have drawn elements of a fixed size (such as digits.bmp in the Illuminator skin) - these elements cannot be changed but can be redrawn. If you want to experiment with font start with a skin that does not have any drawn elements, such as Plain.
Make a Copy of a Skin to Modify
The first thing to do is to make a copy of a skin folder you'd like to modify and save it under a different name. This will keep your skin available after World Clock updates, otherwise all changes will be lost.
Suppose we start with the
Plain (edit skin.ini to set font) skin. We'd make a copy of this folder, rename it to, for example,
Plain Modified and save it in the skins folder.
Because C:\Program Files is a restricted folder in Windows, you may need to provide admin access for this operation to succeed. After we do it, the new skin becomes available in World Clock. Check if you can select it in Preferences.
Modify skin.ini
Now we are ready to modify skin.ini in the new skin. Because of access restrictions Windows has on C:\Program Files folder, we may need to either run a file editor
as Administrator or, alternatively, modify the file in a non-restricted folder and then move it.
To run Notepad as Administrator
- Start - All Programs - Accessories - right click on Notepad and select Run as Administrator.
To modify skin.ini in a non-restricted folder
- Copy skin.ini to C:\Temp or another non-restricted folder.
- Modify and save it there.
- Drag the modified file to the original skins folder and confirm the intention.
Variables that can be used in skin.ini are described in
this section.
