Configuring World Clock Alarm Actions

Alarm actions in World Clock are configured in Preferences on the alarm settings page. Each alarm is configured individually and has its own preferences.

Available alarm action options are shown on the screenshot below.

Show Message Alarm

To configure a Show message alarm:
  • Select the Show messages option in the Action dropdown.
  • Type in your message in the edit box below.

  • Press the Test button to test alarm.

  • If test works, click OK or Apply in Preferences to save the alarm.

Play Sound Alarm

To configure a Play sound alarm:
  • Select the Play sound option in the Action dropdown.
  • In the edit box below provide the full path to a sound file with .wav or .mp3 extension. Use the button with three dots on it to browse for a local file. World clock comes with whoopee.wav file in its sounds sub-directory. Additional sounds can be downloaded with World Clock sound pack.
  • Press the Test button to test alarm. You should hear the sound played.
  • If the test works, click OK or Apply.

Play Sound Repeatedly Alarm

You can have an alarm that plays sound over and over until canceled. To configure such alarm:
  • Select the Play sound repeatedly option in the Action dropdown.
  • In the edit box below provide the full path to .wav or .mp3 sound file.
  • Press the Test button to test alarm. You should hear the sound played over and over.

  • A small window appears that allows you to cancel playing.
Click Cancel to stop playing sound

  • If everything works, click OK or Apply to save the alarm.

Launch Application or Script Alarm

You can configure alarms to start programs. In this example, we'll start the Notepad program.
  • Select the Launch application or script option in the Action dropdown.
  • In the edit box below provide the full path to the program. You can pass command line parameters to the program if you want to.
  • Press the Test button to make sure the program starts.

  • Press OK or Apply to save changes.

Open Document Alarm

To configure an alarm that opens a document:
  • Select the Open document option in the Action dropdown.
  • In the edit box below provide the full path to the document.
  • Click the Test button to see if document really opens.
  • Press OK or Apply to apply changes.

Shutdown Computer Alarm

To have an alarm to shut down your PC:
  • Select the Shutdown computer option in the Action dropdown.
  • Click the Test button to see what happens.

  • A warning appears about PC being shut down in a few seconds.

Hibernate Alarm

To have an alarm that puts computer in hibernation:
  • Select the Hibernate option in the Action dropdown.
  • Click the Test button to see what happens.
